Target Group
This course is for registered Nurses in Care Homes and Supported Living accommodation within the Private, Voluntary and Independent Sectors in the London Borough of Sutton.
Aim
The aim of this course is to enable participants:
- to understand the anatomy of the skin
- Understand the healing process
- to Identify different types of wounds and pressure ulcers
- to apply the principles of wound management and optimise any required treatment for the persons in
Learning Objectives
By the end of the training session participants will have:
- Gained greater knowledge to describe the anatomy and physiology of the skin
- Improve their skills and confidence on how to complete a thorough wound assessment
- Gain the ability to describe factors that contribute to wound healing
- Gain confidence in different wound care products and reason for application in relation to stage of wound healing
- Developed skills to manage and identify different types of wounds
- Able to categorise pressure ulcers and differentiate pressure ulcers from moisture lesions and deep tissue injuries
- Understand how to prevent pressure ulcers
- Able to carry out risk assessments using validated tools to identify those at risk
- Understand the importance of correct pressure relieving equipment
- Understand the importance of correct manual handling in pressure ulcer prevention
