Target Group

This course is targeted to social workers, supervising social workers, family support workers, managers and other relevant roles in Children’s Social Care in the London Borough of Sutton.  

Aim

The aims of this session are: 

  • To equip participants with evidence-based knowledge and skills to effectively undertake life story work from start to finish. 
  • To improve the quality of direct work with children and young people, including how to share difficult information.
  • To focus on how to construct life story work that takes into consideration the child's age and development, including metaphorical stories.

Learning Objectives

By the end of attending this course you will have:

  • An increased confidence in undertaking direct work with children and young people;
  • An increased understanding of theoretical frameworks for undertaking life story work and its importance;
  • An increased knowledge about the tools and activities for life story work with children and young people;
  • An increased knowledge of how to plan life story work from start to finish;
  • An increased confidence in sharing difficult stories and information with children and young people;
  • An improved knowledge about creativity and enjoyment in direct work.
