This course is targeted to registered nurses working in Care Homes within the London Borough of Sutton.
Aim
The aim of this session is:
- To meet the nurses educational needs regarding diabetes management
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course participants will have:
- An increased knowledge of the differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes
- An increased knowledge of the pathophysiology of glycaemic control
- An improved ability to identify potential causes, signs and symptoms of hypoglycaemia
- An improved knowledge of hypoglycaemia treatments
- An increased understanding of ways to manage hypoglycemia
- An improved knowledge of oral hypoglycemic agents, injectable therapies and insulin
- An increased knowledge on management of diabetes including blood glucose monitoring and diet
- An increased understanding of potential complications residents with diabetes may encounter
