Target Group

This course is targeted to for Social Workers or Social Work Students working in the London Borough of Sutton.

Aims

The aim of this session is:

  • To enable Social Workers to develop awareness about current moving and handling practice that is relevant to their work in order:
  • To promote safe and effective moving and handling practice in social care in line with current relevant legislation, national and local guidance.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course participants will have:

  • An increased understanding on how to identify current manual handling legislation and safeguarding guidance affects decision making around moving and handling
  • An increased understanding on how to identify good and poor practice and potential causes of concern
  • An improved understanding where to go for more help and information within the borough and external to the borough when needing further expertise
  • An increased knowledge on a range of equipment and techniques and their use to help with support planning
  • An increased understanding of which techniques are not acceptable by current guidelines of HOP7 and explain their reasoning and how this could result in a safeguarding alert.
  • An improved knowledge on new innovations and developments in the management of manual handling risk relevant to their role with particular reference to optimising care and cost effective personalised moving and handling

Special Instructions

  • No previous experience in moving and handling is necessary.
  • All delegates must arrive on time, be able to complete the session and come dressed appropriately for a practical moving and handling course. This includes wearing stable footwear and clothes which will allow them to participate both as a handler and as a model in the session.
  • NO PARKING is allowed within the Sutton Inclusion Centre grounds. Please allow for additional time to park within roads nearby.
