Target Group

This training is targeted at:

  • Professionals in direct contact with children who undertake or contribute to risk assessments and multi-agency meetings including social workers, family support workers, health professionals, schools, police and others who work with children at risk of abuse, neglect and exploitation who work for the London Borough of Sutton. 

Competency level: 

  • Group Level 2 (regular contact with children, young people and/or parent/carer) or Level 3 (predominantly working with children) or above (including strategic leads), and NHS Inter-Collegiate Standards 2 and above for health professionals.

Aims

The aims of this session are: 

  • To explore working with domestic abuse victims/survivors and its impacts.  
  • To widen the participants' understanding of Transform, the local commissioned provider, and educate on the wide range of intervention on offer. 
  • To provide participants with the knowledge of how a comprehensive risk assessment is completed with a victim of domestic abuse, and how this is used to work with the victim/survivor to support them through their journey.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will have: 

  • An improved knowledge of the role of an IDVA and the Transform Partnership, and domestic abuse in all of its forms and the power and control model;
  • An improved knowledge around the agency responsibility in relation to risk identification, assessment and management;
  • An improved knowledge around safeguarding at a local level and how an IDVA will look to produce a detailed and effective safety plan;
  • An improved knowledge around the ways in which an IDVA will work with Service Users including trauma informed approaches;
  • An improved knowledge to ‘ask’ questions and the right questions;
  • An improved knowledge around why women stay in a domestic abuse situation;
  • An improved knowledge around the correct referral pathways;
  • An improved knowledge around referring to appropriate interventions.
