Target Group: 

This training is targeted at professionals in direct contact with children who undertake or contribute to risk assessments and multi-agency meetings including social workers, family support workers, foster carers, health professionals, schools, police and others who work with children at risk of abuse, neglect and exploitation.    

Group Level 2 (regular contact with children, young people and/or parent/carer) or Level 3 (predominantly working with children) or above (including strategic leads), and NHS Inter-Collegiate Standards 2 and above for health professionals. 

Aims:

The aim of this session is to develop an understanding of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)  and the impact of highly stressful and potentially traumatic events or situations that occur during childhood. The session will include exercises to explore the impact of early negative experiences and the way it can impact on relationships with others, and parenting or caring for children.

Learning Outcomes: 

At the end of this course you will have:

  • An improved understanding of the factors that contribute to adverse childhood experiences, and how to facilitate positive relationship building
  • Developed skills to identify what ACE’s is and spot the signs of people affected by highly stressful and potentially traumatic events or situations
  • Developed techniques and skills to engage positively with children and families affected by ACEs to improve outcomes
