Target Group

This training is targeted at:

  • Professionals in direct contact with children who undertake or contribute to risk assessments and multi-agency meetings including social workers, family support workers, foster carers, health professionals, schools, police and others who work with children at risk of abuse, neglect and exploitation who work for the London Borough of Sutton.  

Competency level: 

  • Group Level 2 (regular contact with children, young people and/or parent/carer) or Level 3 (predominantly working with children) or above (including strategic leads), and NHS Inter-Collegiate Standards 2 and above for health professionals.

Aims

The aims of this session are: 

  • To understand how cognitive disorders can have a devastating impact on children and families and to explore these conditions and strategies to support the child.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course participants will have:

  • An increased knowledge around what FASD is and how it occurs
  • An increased knowledge around how to recognise, diagnose, manage FAS in a clinical setting and understand how it affects a child/individual.
  • An increased knowledge around what support a child / young person needs in the community and in school and understand what the long term implications are
  • An increased knowledge around the impact on our current practice and know what changes we need to consider/implement in our future work
