Target Group
This course is an essential requirement to complete for permanent children's social care staff who work for the London Borough of Sutton.
Please note:
- Agency staff, students and partner organisations working with children and families should book to attend the 1 day Introduction to Restorative Practice course.
- All 3 consecutive days must be completed to pass this course.
Aims
The aim of this course is:
- To equip participants with an understanding of the principles and benefits of restorative practice and learn the skills required to facilitate a restorative conference to prevent future conflict, re-build relationships and repair harm.
Learning Outcomes
By attending this course, participants will have:
- A greater understanding of what is restorative practice and the skills required to practise restoratively.
- An increased knowledge about the history, theories and evidence-base underlying restorative practice.
- An increased knowledge about the principles of restorative practice.
- An increased knowledge about the different models of restorative practice and settings in which restorative practice can be used and how to assess which model is most appropriate.
- An increased knowledge about how to respond to difficult behaviour/conflict.
- An increased knowledge about how to support individuals involved in a restorative process, including overcoming barriers to participation.
- An increased knowledge about the considerations and preparation required prior to facilitating a formal restorative process.
- An increased knowledge about the structure of a restorative conference.
