Target Group:

This course is targeted to Occupational Therapists (OTs) in Adults Social Care and those who require an understanding about OT statutory requirements, who work for the London Borough of Sutton. 

Aims:

The aims of this session are: 

  • To highlight the legal underpinning to the work of occupational therapists with adults in need, in local authorities. It will serve as both overview and update.

Learning Objectives:

By attending this course, participants will have: 

  • An improved understanding and better ability to apply the rules about some or all of the following topics, depending on those which are most relevant to attendees
  • An increased knowledge about the Care Act prevention, use of universal services;
  • An increased knowledge about eligibility under the Care Act;
  • An increased knowledge about equipment, minor adaptations, and major home adaptations (Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996)
  • An increased knowledge about distinguishing social care duties from NHS duties involving assessment, equipment etc.;
  • An increased knowledge about single-handed care issues – manual handling etc.;
  • An increased knowledge about aspects of mental capacity, informal carers, manual handling.
