Target Group
- This is a course open ONLY to those designated as Social Workers or ASYEs
- This course is suitable for those who are actively involved supporting families and service users in Sutton
- All delegates must arrive on time, be able to complete the session and come dressed appropriately for a practical moving and handling course. This includes wearing stable footwear and clothes which will allow them to participate both as a handler and as a model in the session.
Aims
The aim of this session is:
- To further support those designated as Social Workers and ASYE’s to gain a basic understanding of Moving and handling of people.
- The aim is for them to continue to follow safe and effective practice and comply with current relevant legislation, national and local guidance in keeping with their role.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course participants will have:
- An increased understanding of the Role of the SW and ASYE with making decisions around care and support where there is moving and handling involved
- An improved knowledge of commonly used equipment and techniques in LBS which can facilitate clients to maximise their own independence and participation
- An increased understanding of the relevant legislative framework which supports care workers and informal care givers
- An improved knowledge of the assessment process carried out by Senior Carers and OTs to ascertain moving and handling support
- An improved knowledge of which techniques are not acceptable by current guidelines of HOP7 and explain their reasoning and how this could result in a safeguarding alert.
- An increased ability to view any new innovations and developments in the management of manual handling risk relevant to their role.
- An increased ability to identify their role in moving and handling and appreciate what the practical part of care involves so they may allocate adequate time and resources
- An increased ability to discuss the principle of optimising care and explore the assessment process used in identifying cases for the Optimal care team
Special Instructions
- No previous experience in moving and handling is necessary.
