Target Group

This course is targeted to Registered nurses working in Care Homes within the London Borough of Sutton.

Please ensure you bring a syringe pump as this is required to complete the training.

Aim

The aim of this session is:

  • To provide Registered nurses with the opportunity to learn theoretical and practical skills required to safely and effectively use syringe drivers and to enhance their knowledge around End of Life Care.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course participants will have:

  • An increased knowledge and confidence to use of a syringe pump
  • An improved ability to identify Common Palliative Care Symptoms
  • An improved knowledge of conversions of oral to subcutaneous  medication route
  • An improved knowledge of background and breakthrough end of life care medication
  • An increased knowledge and confidence on calculating volumes and compatibilities of end of life care medication
  • An increased knowledge to identify drugs most commonly used with Syringe pumps
  • An increased knowledge of required record keeping and documentation involved in syringe pump use
  • An improved understanding of setting up and maintaining of  syringe pumps
  • Improved awareness of the pathway of syringe pump support available in Sutton
