Target Group:

This course is for Foster carers, Adopters and Supervising Social Workers. In addition, this course is for Residential Child Care Workers (RCCW) and residential team managers from mainstream, short-breaks and outreach services.

Also relevant for youth workers, education professionals and those in the community and voluntary sectors.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Understanding aggression
  2. Understand how feelings drive behaviour
  3. Identify general physiological signs of anger
  4. Identify the common triggers of anger
  5. Recognise the levels of anger in young people
  6. Learn appropriate interventions for each level of anger including actions to avoid being restrained or attacked
  7. Have ways to manage your own anger
  8. Have de-escalation and defusion techniques
  9. Safely disengage from being held
  10. Safely disconnect another person from being held
  11. Understand personal safety and how to self-protect
  12. Post incident actions – the importance of record keeping and de-briefing
