Target group
This course is targeted to Foster Carers who work for the London Borough of Sutton.
Aims
The aims of this session are to offer an insight into PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy), a model of caring and parenting developed by Dan Hughes. It is ideal for admin teams, commissioners and workers not dealing directly with children and young people that have experienced trauma. The training covers Attachment theory and the impact of trauma and developmental trauma in a way that allows you to appreciate and put into perspective why we have to deal with the challenging behaviours of children especially looked after children. It also explores how PACE can create and support secure attachments with children and young people who may have experienced difficulties in early life.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will have:
• Explored what PACE actually is
• Explored the four elements of PACE: Playfulness, acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy and how foster carers and childcare workers can integrate PACE into their work
• Explored how foster carers and childcare workers can help children with attachment difficulties
• Discussed the difficulties that may be involved in using PACE as a model of care
