Target group

This training is aimed at Occupational Therapists working at the London Borough of Sutton.

Aims

The aims of this session are:

  • To enable an awareness of the requirements and responsibilities in the area of risk and its management.
  • To consider the principles of risk assessment and risk management, and how a risk assessment, which may be in conjunction with a best interest decision, inform an Occupational Therapy functional assessment and decisions on interventions such as the provision of equipment and adaptations.

Learning objectives

By the end of this course participants should have:

  • An increased insight into the use of risk assessment as a tool to assist with clinical decisions as an Occupational Therapist working in the community.
  • An improved understanding of the principles of risk assessment and management.
  • An improved understanding of the risk management process.
  • An increased awareness of how to embrace and engage with risk to enable person centred care.
  • Gained knowledge to identify a number of other information resources currently available.
