Target Group
This course is targeted to professionals who have organisational responsibilities for SEND at all levels which includes: children and adult social care staff, educational settings (early years providers, schools, academies, free schools, colleges), nurses, GPs and other doctors, allied health professionals, therapeutic roles, practice leads, commissioned providers and private and voluntary organisations.
Aims
The aims of this course are to provide:
- An introduction to emotional and mental health needs in young people including general worries, social anxiety and low mood
- An overview of some of the main areas of difficulty faced by young people in relation to their emotional well-being
- Common signs and behaviours which may be indicative of emotional well-being needs
- Strategies and approaches which schools and families can use to support emotional well-being
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will have:
- Increased confidence in recognising and supporting emotional needs in young people
- A greater understanding of common mental health and emotional well-being needs
- A greater understanding of the prevalence of mental health and emotional well-being needs in young people
- A chance to reflect on the current strategies you use and an introduction to additional approaches and tools you can start using with young people
