This course is targeted to Care staff in Nursing and Residential Care Homes and the Social Inclusion Centre in the London Borough of Sutton.
Aim:
The aim of this session is:
- To develop a general awareness of medicines and be able to follow legal requirements and guidelines
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this course participants will have:
- An increased understanding of the legal requirements and guidelines relating to the administration of medication in social care settings
- An increased knowledge of the current procedures and practice for the ordering, supply, receipt, storage and disposal of medications
- An increased knowledge of the key points of drug administration and systems available
- An increased understanding of incorporating safe infection control policies and procedures with regards to Coronavirus and Covid 19 in the administration of medication
- An increased understanding of reporting medication errors, incidents and undesirable effects
- An increased understanding of the main points of care settings’ agreed administration of medication procedures
- An improved knowledge of the policy on self-administration, covert medication and homely remedies
- An improved knowledge of professional accountability and confidentiality for medication and the legal issues and the role of the unqualified member of the staff
- An improved understanding of how to give different types of medicines such as eye drops, cream etc.
- An increased knowledge of the 5 rights of Medication administration
- An improved understanding of the principles of good practice and record keeping
