Target Group:
This course is targeted to Social workers , occupational therapists , Enabling Independent Officers and any other staff who apply Care Act principles in adult social care.
Note: The training is delivered over 2 consecutive half-days which must be attended for the training to be completed.
Aims:
The aim of this session is:
- To ensure that all staff in adults social care have the knowledge and understanding required to comply with Care Act requirements.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this course, participants will have an improved knowledge and understanding about:
- Key provisions of the Care Act, highlighting how the flexibilities and innovations in the Act should drive practice.
- Care Needs Assessments under S9 and semi-structured discussions that help people understand their needs and how to get the support they need as part of the Care Act conversations.
- Carers’ Support Needs Assessments under S10 of the Care Act 2014.
- Eligibility Decisions under S13 of the Care Act, including a highlight of all eligible groups.
- Section 11 of the Care Act 2014 - refusal of assessment
- Advocacy and the Care Act
- Prevention, Reduction and Re-ablement -key principles and strategies for taking a community, and strengths-based approaches
- When Care Act assessments can be paused in favour of focusing on prevention, reduction and re-ablement services.
- Learning from recent case law and ombudsman decisions.
