TARGET GROUP
This course is aimed at those who need to devleop the awareness, knowledge and skills to safeguard those who are vulnerable to extremism. It relates to professionals and volunteers in a range of adult's and children's settings in Sutton.
The competency levels refers to: Group Level 2 (regular contact with children, young people and/or parent/carer) or Level 3 (predominately working with children) or above (including strategic leads) as set out in the Safeguarding Competency framework in London Safeguarding Child Procedures. NHS Inter-Collegiate Standards 2 and above for health professionals.
COURSE OVERVIEW
The aim of this course is to ensure that staff are able to comply with the Statutory Prevent duty in everyday business, provide staff training to implement the duty effectively.
The course will focus on the development of the necessary skill set, knowledge and confidence to work with individuals who may have radical views or ideologies to mitigate risks and vulnerabilities.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the conference participants will have:
● An improved awareness and understanding of the requirements of relevant policy, including the Prevent Duty 2015 and the Channel guidance 2015;
● Developed an awareness of the vulnerability assessment framework;
● The ability to advise staff in relation to any Prevent concerns;
● The confidence to continue their work with individuals who hold extremist ideologies (while allowing Home Office intervention providers to challenge the ideology)
● An understanding of how to make a Prevent referral to a Channel panel, or an alternative local multi-agency group, and how to escalate unresolved concerns, e.g. Prevent strategy meetings;
●An improved understanding of the role of Channel panels and the role of the practitioners in the panel.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
It is advisable that attendees complete the Home Office prevent training prior to attneding this course.
