Target group

This course is targeted to professionals who have organisational responsibilities for SEND at all levels which includes: children and adult social care staff, educational settings (early years providers, schools, academies, free schools, colleges), nurses, GPs and other doctors, allied health professionals, therapeutic roles, practice leads, foster carers, residential care staff, commissioned providers and private and voluntary organisations.   

Aims

The aims of this course is to provide:
• Information about attention, hyperactivity and distractibility 
• An understanding of the diagnosis of ADHD 
• Common signs and behaviours which may be indicative of ADHD
• An introduction to the links between ADHD and behaviours which arise from experiences of trauma 
• Strategies and approaches which can support adults when working with children and young people with ADHD

Learning objectives

By the end of this session you will have: 
• Increased confidence in recognising and supporting ADHD behaviours and other needs arising from attention difficulties 
• An understanding about the links between ADHD and behaviours which arise from experiences of trauma 
• A knowledge of strategies that can be used to support children and young people with ADHD and attention difficulties
