This workshop is aimed at Children’s Social Care staff in London Borough of Sutton.

Aims

The aim of this session is to help practitioners understand about the work of Cafcass within Private Law Proceedings and how local authorities can work with Cafcass to safeguard children within these proceedings. The session will cover processes but also equip practitioners with assessment tools which will assist with preparing S7 reports. 

Learning objectives

By the end of this course participants should have:
• Understood how children become subject to Private Law Proceedings – types of applications and Orders sought by parents and other adults
• Understood a child’s journey through Private Law proceedings
• Understood about managing risks for children and families in Private Law Proceedings
• Learned about the Family Court’s approach to domestic abuse
• Be clear about the role of a Local Authority in Private Law Proceedings
• Understood what makes a good Section 7 or Section 37 Report
• Learned about tools for assessing the risks arising to children through domestic abuse, other forms of harmful parenting, and parental alienation
