Target Group

This course is targeted to adults and children health and social care staff in a wide range of setting which includes foster carers, family support workers, children home staff, and those in residential care, nursing care, home care and supported living settings, personal assistants and other frontline practitioners and volunteers who have regular contact with service users/patients and their families or carers in the London Borough of Sutton. 

Staff Groups A, B, C, D, and E as per the Bournemouth University National Mental Capacity Act Competency Framework. 
Level 2 staff and above (ref: NHS Intercollegiate document 2018 - Adult Safeguarding: Roles and Competencies For Healthcare Staff):

Group Level 2 (regular contact with children, young people and/or parent/carer) or Level 3 (predominantly working with children) or above (including strategic leads), and NHS Inter-Collegiate Standards 2 and above for health professionals

Aims

The aims of this session is:

  • To provide participants with the fire service’s role in community safety and Sutton
    Multi agency partnerships
  • To raise awareness of the characteristics and behaviours that increase fire risk for
    vulnerable people, and the actions Carers can take to reduce that risk

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Know the fire service’s role in community safety
  • Be familiar with the Sutton Multi-agency partnership and their role within it
  • Provide fire safety awareness to those with caring responsibilities
  • Recognise individuals who are at high risk of having a fire
  • Describe what to do in the event of a fire
  • Identify the key high risk factors
  • Know what actions to take and control measures that can be applied to reduce fire
    risks
  • Know how to apply the LFB’s risk referral matrix
  • Know the significant risks associated with hoarding in the home
  • What LFB advice and guidance is available via the LFB’s website
