ZPersonality Disorder - 22/23

Target Group:

This course is targeted to those who need to develop awareness about adult mental health to carry out their roles and responsibilities such as social care workers, carers, health professionals, schools, police, public health and others that are part of the adults and children safeguarding partnership in the London Borough of Sutton. 

 Group Level 2 (regular contact with children, young people and/or parent/carer) or Level 3 (predominantly working with children) or above (including strategic leads), and NHS Inter-Collegiate Standards 2 and above for health professionals. 

Please note this is a 2 half days course and both part 1 and part 2 must be attended.

To give participants an overall understanding of what personality disorders are, and how to deal with someone who has one

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course participants should have:
• Be able to describe how a personality disorder differs from a “normal” personality and the difficulties with diagnosing a personality disorder
• Appreciate the difference between a personality disorder and a neurotic or psychotic mental disorder 
• Be able to identify the common signs and symptoms of the 10 types of personality disorder
• Have explored good and poor practice in dealing with people who have personality disorders 
• Understand how the Mental Health Act applies to people who have personality disorders 
• Know about some of the treatment options and resources which may be available to help support people with personality disorders, and to support the professionals and family members who deal with them
• Appreciate some of the emotional effects on professionals, and family members, of working with (or living with) someone who has a personality disorder
