This forum is targeted to Foster Carers with any level of experience.

COURSE OVERVIEW

This forum will introduce concepts from Daniel Siegel's book:  'The Whole Brain Child'. Discussions will focus on the current evidence base for brain development in childhood, using this understanding of the brain we will explore how we can respond to young people's intense emotions to help them integrate their experiences and regulate their emotions. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After attending the forum, participants will have:

  • Develop knowledge and understanding about brain development and the impact of stress on a child’s behaviour
  • An increased awareness of the role of the Foster Carer to offset the impact of adverse early experiences
  • Explored practical strategies to help develop skills to help young people regulate their emotions, including planned approaches to respond to emotional and behavioural challenges

SPECIAL INSTRUCTION

It will be facilitated by Sutton's Looked after Children's CAMHS team, who can offer on-going support/consultation.
