Target Group / Level
This training is targeted to LBS Children’s Social Care Teams, Foster Carers and staff in
Semi-Independent placements.
Aim
The training will focus on ways professionals, carers and key workers can instil hope and support unaccompanied young people’s mental health and well-being. The training will focus on aspects of well-being that research indicates are pertinent to UASC populations.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the course the participants will have:
- Increased awareness and understanding and of the experiences of
unaccompanied asylum seeking children and refugee young people - Increased understanding of how these experiences may impact a young person’s
well-being and mental health in the present day - Improved awareness of what research has shown impacts UASC well-being.
- Improved knowledge and awareness of the ways in which you can support UASC,
focussing on particular issues such as sleep difficulties, uncertainties with legal
processes, adjusting to living in a new country, past traumatic memories/
flashbacks etc.
