Target Group / Level

This course and is designed specifically for workers within Social Care who will attend court as part of their duties to safeguard children, including giving evidence at contested hearings.

The session is ideal for staff who have never attended court, need to improve confidence or have not been for a significant period of time and want to brush up their skills. This is not a lecture but an interactive training course

Course Overview

You will be working with the case study used in Preparing for Court that is taking the case study through the court process. You will have the opportunity to work in small groups and experience sitting in the “witness box”, with the barristers conducting examination-in-chief and cross-examination questioning.

During the day, you will receive feedback on your performance and tips and hints at how best to give robust evidence. This course will also cover:
• Core elements of the law
• Examination-in-Chief - Dos & Don'ts
• Cross-Examination - Dos & Don'ts

Feedback from previous delegates includes;
‘This training has helped me to learn to be more confident in court, particularly if I ever have to give evidence in chief or be cross examined. It has enabled me to think more clearly about imparting information to court for the benefit of the child, regardless of how difficult this may be for the family to hear.’

‘The course gives a good insight as to what is required during court proceedings and how best to achieve the recommendations of the local authority.’
