Managers and Assistant Team Managers within LBS Adults Social Care

Course Aim:

To understand Safeguarding Adults duties and responsibilities in the Care Act 2014 

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the course participant will be able to:

  • Reflect on strategies to establish and maintain an outcome focused approach for users/carers/patients
  • Apply robust multi agency working
  • Manage safeguarding adult concerns and enquiries
  • Ability to manage cases through the safeguarding adult processes
  • Support, supervise, promote confidence and build professional skills in staff assessing, analysing and investigating the Safeguarding Adults at Risk process.
  • Appreciate the importance of meaningful ‘partnership working’, including encouraging the confident involvement of professional ‘Alerters’ in the safeguarding process to build a successful, effective, evidence-based and robust service including information sharing and hold partners to account regarding their responsibilities
  • Understand the Statutory role in Adults at Risk work, including the range of management responsibilities in assessing, evaluating and managing risk in a person-centred way and links to clear professional judgement that inform decisions
  • Apply the Protecting adults at risk: London multi-agency policy and procedures to safeguard adults from abuse, including the purpose of each stage of the process from decision to investigate, through to strategy meeting and case conference meetings as necessary and appropriate, within time scales and recorded with a rigour and appreciation of professional accountability and audit
  • Understand how the duties and responsibilities under the Care Act and the Mental Capacity Act apply in practice
  • Explore the difficult balance between safety and choice and the control for individuals
  • Chairing Safeguarding Adult meetings or discussions
  • Identify how best evidence is achieved
  • Challenge poor practice
  • Ability to review and analyse information, risk and need
  • Provide support to whistle blowers
