London Borough of Sutton Staff within the START Team, Sutton Inclusion Centre, Occupational Therapy Team, and commissioned providers within Nursing, Residential and Day Care Services, including Home Carers. Places available to PVI providers if not taken up.
Course Overview
• Understand legislation and policies relating to prevention and control of Infections
• Understand systems and procedures relating to the prevention and control of infections
• Understand roles and responsibilities in the prevention and control of infections
• Understand the importance of risk assessment in relation to the prevention and control of infections
• Understand the importance of using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the prevention and control of infections
• Understand the importance of good personal hygiene in the prevention and control of infections.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of training participants will have an understanding of and be able to:
• outline current legislation, regulatory body standards, local and organisational policies which are relevant to the prevention and control of infection
• explain employees’ and employer’s roles and responsibilities in relation to the prevention and control of infection
• describe procedures and systems relevant to the prevention and control of infection
• explain the potential impact of an outbreak of infection on the individual and the organisation
• explain the process and the importance of carrying out a risk assessments
• describe different types of PPE
• explain the reasons for use of PPE
• understand the correct practice in the application, removal and disposal of PPE
• describe the key principles of good personal hygiene
• demonstrate good hand washing technique and the correct sequence for hand washing
• explain when and why hand washing should be carried out
• Identify the types of products that should be used for hand washing
