Target Group

This course is targeted to adults and children health and social care staff in a wide range of setting which includes foster carers, family support workers, children home staff, and those in residential care, nursing care, home care and supported living settings, personal assistants and other frontline practitioners and volunteers who have regular contact with service users/patients and their families or carers in the London Borough of Sutton.

Staff Groups A, B, C, D, and E as per the Bournemouth University National Mental Capacity Act Competency Framework.

Aim

This session is exploring working with domestic abuse victims/survivors and its impacts.  The course will widen the participants understanding of Transform, the local commissioned provider, and educate on the wide range of intervention on offer.

The course will educate participants with the knowledge of how a comprehensive risk assessment is completed with a victim of domestic abuse, and how this is used to work with the victim/survivor to support them through their journey.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course participants will have a better understanding of:

• The role of an IDVA and the Transform Partnership
• Domestic abuse in all of its forms and the power and control model
• Agency responsibility in relation to risk identification, assessment and management
• Safeguarding at a local level and how an IDVA will look to produce a detailed and effective safety plan
• The ways in which an IDVA will work with Service Users including trauma informed approaches
• The confidence to ‘ask’ questions and the right questions
• Why women stay in a domestic abuse situation
• The correct referral pathways
• Referring to appropriate interventions.
