TARGET GROUP

Group Level 2 (regular contact with children, young people and/or parent/carer) or Level 3 (predominately working with children) or above (including strategic leads) as set out in the Competence Still Matters training framework published by the London Safeguarding Children Board. Inter-Collegiate Standards 2 and above for health professionals.

AIM

To understand the impact of developmental trauma and how this differs from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By attending this course, participants will have

 

  • Improved their knowledge about the causes of developmental Trauma and links with attachment relationships.
  • Understanding the link with early developmental trauma and presentations of emotional distress, mental health diagnoses, Self-harm and suicide.
  • Understanding benefits of therapeutic parenting approaches for young people that have experienced developmental trauma
  • Understanding trauma informed approach by the wider system / network and how this influences positive outcomes.
  • Consider the impact on professionals working with people affected by trauma (i.e. secondary trauma) and to explore strategies for self-care.
  • Discuss any tools/resources or helpful strategies for working with children and families in a trauma-informed approach.

Reflect on current practice and think about what practitioners might need to do to implement a trauma-informed approach in their work to support children and families
