Target Group

This course is targeted to all staff in children's social care. 

Aims

The aim of this course is to ensure that staff within Children’s Social Care are confident and competent in record keeping and report writing in line with the requirements of the Children Act 1989, in a manner which is anti-oppressive and is accessible to both children and their families either at the current time of social care involvement or in the future. The aim of the course is to ensure staff are able to articulate issues of capacity, risks, strengths and the service users viewpoint in a concise and professional manner, outlining options and decision-making that is both accountable and defensible

Learning Objectives

This course will provide participants with the following learning outcomes:
• To be able to confidently write reports and case notes with appropriate legal literacy in terms of the Children Act 1989 using the correct terminology.
• To write in a way that is accessible to families and appropriate for children to read if choosing to access their records presently or in the future.
• To write in a manner that is still strengths-based even when raising concerns and outlining risks.
• To be able to confidently write about safeguarding and risk – using language that is meaningful to the risk management process.
• To be able to write professionally, concisely, accurately and clearly for the purposes of accountability.
• To be able to clearly articulate reasoning and decision-making.
