Target group:

This half day study session is for:

  • carers and nurses in Care Homes and Supported Living accommodation within the Private, Voluntary and Independent Sectors within Sutton and those who look after Sutton’s residents and
  • carers and registered nurses employed by the London Borough of Sutton, in particular the START Team

Please note this course is not open to domiciliary/home care services within the private, independent and voluntary (PVI) sectors.

Course Overview:

The aim of this course is:
• To provide participants with a good understanding of how to maintain the integrity of the skin
• To provide knowledge in relation to prevention of pressure ulcers
• To enable participants to apply the principles of pressure ulcer management and optimise any required treatment for the persons in their care
• To enable participants to identify and manage pressure ulcers and categorise

Learning objectives:

By the end of training session participants will have:

• Gained greater knowledge to describe the anatomy and physiology of the skin
• Gained greater knowledge describe how pressure ulcers form and identify what factors contribute to this
• Improved their skills and confidence on how to complete a thorough wound assessment
• Increased their knowledge to define what a pressure ulcer is and describe what is meant by a grade 1,2,3, 4, unstageable and suspected deep tissue injury in pressure ulceration
• Increased their knowledge to define what moisture lesion is and be able to recognise the difference between moisture lesion and pressure damage
• Gained the ability to describe factors that contribute to pressure ulcer healing
• Participated to discussion on the application of different types of wound care products to aid pressure ulcers to heal
• Developed their skills on how to can promote and practice good pressure area care and prevent pressure ulcers from forming

Special Instructions:

Due to Covid-19, to protect all the delegates, we have reduced the number of spaces.

It is also important that all delegates:

  • Do Not to come in if not well
  • Remember to wash hands regularly
  • Practice respiratory hygiene measures
  • Maintain social distancing
  • Bring own PPE (gloves, masks, aprons and gel)
  • Bring own refreshments
