This course targets all LBS Children's Social Care Staff, including Family Support Workers, Social Workers, ATMs, TMs. 

AIM

 

The aim of this 2 hour virtual workshop is to introduce participants to the principles of Life Story Work and provide an overview of Sutton’s Life Story Work Practice Directive.  

 

The course will focus on how to construct life story work by introducing the 3 stages that comprise this work. Participants will be invited to share cases, and case discussions will support participants to improve the quality of their direct work with children and young people, including how to share difficult information. 

 

Note: This is an introduction to Sutton’s approach to  life story work, an in-depth module covering practical exercises will be run as a  classroom-based session when this is possible.  

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES






By the end of this course participants should have:

  • An understanding of Sutton’s Life Story Work Practice Directive.
  • An improved understanding of the principles behind Life Story Work.
  • An increased knowledge of the purpose of Life Story Work and how each part of the service plays a vital role in preparing, developing, and undertaking Life Story Work.
  • Developed an  understanding of Sutton’s approach to undertaking Life Story Work, including the 3 stages: Preparation, Information Sharing, and Bringing it All Together.
  • Improved confidence in developing difficult stories and planning Life Story Work, including how to evidence work on Mosaic.
  • An improved  understanding of direct work activities that can be used within each stage.
