Target Group 

This course is designed specifically for Social Care professionals who will attend court as part of their duties to safeguard children, including giving evidence at contested hearings, and work for the London Borough of Sutton. 

The session is ideal for staff who have never attended court, need to improve confidence or have not been for a significant period of time and want to brush up their skills.

Aims

The aims of the sessions are:

  • To review case studies used in Preparing for Court and throughout the court process. 
  • To have the opportunity to work in small groups and experience sitting in the “witness box”, with the barristers conducting examination-in-chief and cross-examination questioning. 
  • To receive feedback on your performance and tips and hints at how best to give robust evidence.

Learning Objectives 

By the end of the course, participants will have: 

  • An increased knowledge of core elements of the law 
  • An increased knowledge about examination-in-Chief - Dos & Don'ts 
  • An increased knowledge about cross-Examination - Dos & Don'ts
