Target Group

This course is targeted to registered nurses working in Care Homes within the London Borough of Sutton.

Aim

The aim of this session is:

  • To meet the nurses educational needs regarding diabetes management

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course participants will have:

  • An increased knowledge of the differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes
  • An increased  knowledge of the pathophysiology of glycaemic control
  • An improved ability to identify potential causes, signs and symptoms of hypoglycaemia
  • An improved knowledge of hypoglycaemia treatments
  • An increased understanding of ways to manage hypoglycemia
  • An improved knowledge of oral hypoglycemic agents, injectable therapies and insulin
  • An increased knowledge on management of diabetes including blood glucose monitoring and diet
  • An increased understanding of potential complications residents with diabetes may encounter
