This course is targeted to Occupational Therapists (OTs) working with children and those who require an understanding about occupational therapy and the law, who work for the London Borough of Sutton.  

Aims:

The aims of this session are: 

  • To highlight the legal underpinning to the work of occupational therapists with disabled children in need, in local authorities. It will serve as both overview and update.

Learning Objectives:

By attending this session, participants will have: 

  • An improved understanding and ability to apply the rules about some  or all of the following topics, depending on those which are most relevant to attendees:
  • An increased knowledge about the Children Act/Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970;
  • An increased knowledge about the use of universal services (including charities) to meet;
  • An increased knowledge about the eligibility of disabled children;
  • An increased knowledge about equipment, minor adaptations, manual handling and parental compliance with recommendations;
  • An increased knowledge about major home adaptations (Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996);
  • An increased knowledge about distinguishing social care duties from NHS duties;
  • An increased knowledge about remote assessment.
