TARGET GROUP

The expectation is that all managers and supervisors attend this supervision training to comply with the standards of professional bodies. It applies to all levels of management (A/TM, T/M, HoS and specialist roles). 

Note: All participants must attend the full three day course for the training to be registered as completed. You will also need to have completed the 3-day restorative practice training to apply best practice in supervision. 

Refresher training will be needed within three years. 

AIM

This three-day supervision training is based on the LB Sutton supervision policy and aims to provide participants with the knowledge, understanding, skills and confidence to deliver effective services to the most vulnerable adults and their families in the community. 

A mixed approach will be taken to integrate theory, practice approaches and models, and tools for developing and improving performance through individual supervision. The session also covers group supervision approaches. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course participants will have:

  • Improved their knowledge and understanding of what constitutes effective supervision and its relationship to safe practice and positive outcomes for service users.
  • Developed knowledge and skills to apply the 4x4x4 (integrated) model of supervision and; be able to demonstrate how it can assist in understanding the functions of supervision and its impact of supervision on others within the system.
  • Increased their knowledge and understanding of how past experience of supervision can impact on the supervisory relationship.
  • Increased their knowledge and understanding of the importance of developing and reviewing the supervisory relationship, and the role of the agreement in promoting anti oppressive practice within supervision.
  • Increased their knowledge and understanding about the role of supervision throughout the stages of professional development from newly qualified to experienced practitioner.
  • Increased their knowledge and understanding about the importance of recording supervision.
  • Increased their knowledge and understanding about the importance of the authoritative supervisory style in promoting good outcomes through supervision.
  • Developed skills and confidence in the use of the supervision cycle, and better understand how it can be used as a model to facilitate effective supervision.
  • Increased their knowledge and understanding about the impact of anxiety and how emotions may impact on staff, critical thinking and decision making.
  • Increased their knowledge and understanding about the importance of the positive expectations model when working to improve practice.
  • Increased their knowledge and understanding about the factors that might affect performance.
  • Increased their knowledge and understanding about the possible function of blocks to learning and development of the individual concerned.
  • Be able to apply authority appropriately within supervision and avoid setting people up to fail
  • Be able to apply strategies for addressing poor performance. 
  • Be able to apply the LB Sutton supervision policy in the supervisory role
