Target Group

This course is targeted to carers supporting residents in Care Homes, the START Team and other carers within the London Borough of Sutton.  

Please note this course is not open to home care providers within the private, independent and voluntary (PVI) sectors

Aim

The aim of this session is:

  • To meet the carers’ educational needs regarding diabetes management

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course participants will have:

  • An improved knowledge of the differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes
  • An improved understanding of the importance of glycaemic control
  • An increased ability to identify potential causes, signs and symptoms of hypoglycaemia
  • An increased knowledge of ways to manage hypoglycemia
  • An improved knowledge of oral hypoglycemic agents, injectable therapies and insulin
  • An increased knowledge on management of diabetes 
  • An increased understanding of potential complications residents with diabetes may encounter
